INDONESIA POWER ON JAVA 5 STEAM POWER PLANT PROJECT

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources  has finally approved the PT Indonesia Power, a subsidiary of PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) on the Java 5 Steam Power Plant project with a capacity of 2 x 1,000 megawatts (MW) worth Rp 30 trillion in Banten.

This certainty answer the polemic about the direct appointment by PLN for the project. Because previously the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources prohibits PLN make direct appointments on the Java 5 steam power plant project and have to go through an auction, with the provisions of the broadest given to private entrepreneurs.

The direct appointment by PLN to Indonesia Power, as previously PLN cancel the auction already leaving two strong candidates in June. The reason that surfaced at the time, the auction participants are not convincing, because one of the candidates the winners of China is not the power company.

In contrast to previous statements against direct appointment. This time, Acting (Acting) Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said the direct appointment can be done provided for PLN's subsidiary.

Procurement Director of PLN Supangkat Iwan Santoso said the main considerations pointed Indonesia Power for work on Java 5  steam  power plant because it already owns land in Banten and the existing feasibility study and supporting facilities of Suralaya Steam Power Plant.

If nothing goes wrong, the construction of Java 5  steam power plant will begin in January 2017.
