INALUM PREPARE US$ 1.5M FOR PROJECT

PT Inalum prepare about US$ 1.5 billion to build two production facilities, namely alumina refinery and aluminum smelter. This was done to increase the capacity of aluminum ingot to 1 million tons in 2025.

President Director of PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Inalum) (Persero) Winardi Sunoto said the company is still in the phase of a feasibility study together with PT Antam and Chinese companies to build alumina refinery in West Kalimantan to produce alumina, the raw material of aluminum.

"Alumina refinery capacity of 1 million tons per year investment value of approximately US$ 700 million. Smelter we will optimize from there to 300,000 tons per year. The new Smelter value is approximately US$ 800 million to be 200,000 tons per year. We expect soon be begins, probably early next year, "he said.

He targets the alumina refinery project to be completed in 2020. According to him, the construction of an alumina refinery long time about 30 months, while aluminum smelters around 2 years.

As for the next 500,000 tons, the company will weigh the economic value of the most economical among the augment smelter in North Borneo or Kalimantan Barat.
