PT Krakatau Steel Tbk said it has recently started heating up of a coke
oven plant to increase heat level required for the start-up of the facility,
scheduled for October of this year.
The coke oven plant is part of a key blast furnace complex being
developed by Krakatau in Cilegon, Banten. The coke oven plant will produce
required coke material for the blast furnace complex.
Krakatau said that the blast furnace complex, whose construction
progress has now reached 95.3 percent, is set to start operation in November of
this year. As has been previously reported, the facility will produce 1.2
million tons of hot metal and pig iron.
"This is the largest project ever taken by the company. The heating
up is very important for the completion of the whole blast furnace. Once the
blast furnace is completed, the company can save plenty of energy
consumption," said Krakatau President Director Sukandar in the statement,
pointing out the blast furnace will allow the company to save about US$ 58 per
tons of steel.
