Two steel producer are PT JFE Steel Galvanizing Indonesia (JSGI) and PT
Sunrise Steel began to realize investments worth a total of US$ 350 million in
order to meet the high demand of the domestic market.
President Director of PT Sunrise Steel, Henry Setiawan said the line
before the first plant has a production capacity of 260,000 tons per year. On
the new line, which began construction in the second half of this year will
have a production capacity of 140,000 tons per year, so in 2018 Sunrise Steel
will produce coated steel reached 400,000 tons per year.
"The addition of this second line requires an investment of US$ 50
million, and is part of our commitment to support the improvement of national
steel production," he said.
From the data of the Ministry of Industry, this year the national steel
consumption is expected to reach 16 million tons, with the need of scrap steel about
3 million tons. Meanwhile, total production in the country only 7 million tons.
Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartanto said that currently there are
about 200 companies in the national steel industry upstream and downstream are
active in Indonesia.
He said for JSGI plant construction is expected to contribute to the
fulfillment of the domestic steel raw materials, especially cold rolled steel
plate products coated (galvanized steel) to meet the needs of the production of
four-wheeled vehicles.
JSGI plant which occupies an area of 17.1 hectares in the industrial
area MM2100 Cikarang, Bekasi stood with an investment of US$ 300 million by the
Japanese company of JFE Steel Corp.
JSGI produce steel product types galvannealed (GA) and cold wiled (CR)
steel with a production capacity of 400,000 tons per year.
President Director of JFE Steel Corporation Japan Koji Kakigi claiming
that the company will be the first manufacturer of steel sheets for the needs
of the automotive industry in Indonesia.
