RP 18 BILLION FOR LAND ACQUISITION FUND FOR WAMENA AIRPORT

Jayawijaya Regency Government, Papua Province, allocated Rp 18 billion for land acquisition belonging to residents around the Wamena airport. The land for the addition of a runway about 500 meters.

Jayawijaya Regent Wempi Wetipo argued that when contacted from Jayapura. Wempi said it had paid Rp 9 billion to owners of customary rights living around the airport. "We have paid Rp 9 billion on Thursday. The rest of the funds for land acquisition will be paid in the next year," he said.

Wempi has issued an order to stop granting building permit (IMB) to communities around Wamena Airport. He will impose sanctions on civil servants who proved issuing building permit for residents who build a house or shop around the airport.

Head of Wamena airport Rasburhani said, he appreciates the steps of Jayawijaya regency government related land acquisition for the improvement of infrastructure Wamena airport. Currently Wamena airport runway length is 2,175 meters. Ideally such a long runway at Wamena airport reaches 2,500 meters.

He declared, with the addition of a long runway, the level of air safety at Wamena airport more secure. Moreover Wamena airport altitude of about 1,600 meters above sea level.

"We also widen the runway from 30 to 45 meters. According to the plan, the project was completed in December," he added.

Wamena airport is the second busiest airport in the province of Papua. Wamena Airport is the only airport in the mountains of Papua who can land a jet.
