STAINLESS STEEL PLANT INVESTMENT IN MOROWALI US$ 5.6 BILLION

The Ministry of Industry reported the investment value of the stainless steel plant in the industrial area of Morowali, Central Sulawesi reached US$ 5.6 billion. Investments to supporting mineral industry.

Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartanto submit a report to the President Joko Widodo on mineral fistula developments latest, one of which is the processing of nickel into ferronickel in the industrial area of Morowali newly built.

To the president, Airlangga states that the stainless steel plant capacity can be increased up to 2 million tonnes next year. Earlier, the ministry is targeting the plant capacity can reach 2 million tons in 2019.
         
"With the completion of complex investment of nearly US$ 5.6 billion this then can production of 2 million tons of stainless steel. We mix between nickel with chrome imported from South Africa," he said.
